Strauss vs. Salsa?!

31 07 2007

My one-time violin “advisor”, Rochelle Shing, emailed me this story which appeared in the Observer Magazine. It’s about rising conducting superstar Gustavo Dudamel and how classical music is the ticket to a better life for children living in the slums and barrios.

It’s a long article, but as Rochelle stated in her email, it’s worth a read.

Obviously, when an 11 year-old violist says that in her home, Strauss is cooler than salsa, you’re definitely on to something.
