Dies Irae, Dies Illa

In the all-consuming search for pieces to play, I’ve discovered the Dies Irae part of the Requiem Mass. Many composers have composed music for this part of the mass, but three fellows stand out from the rest: Berlioz, Verdi, and Mozart (duh!).

Of the three, I think Mozart’s is the most playable in terms of the technique and performers available to The Orchestra – but Berlioz and Verdi really dole out the judgement of heaven.
